On Saturday 15th February groups of Active Citizens, many of whom were schoolchildren worked together to fill over 180 full bags of rubbish and a third of a Bottle Bank from an area that extends from Simon’s Town Station through Glencairn Beach to the Car Park on the north side a distance of 5kms.

BACK TO CLEAN was the latest in a series of Beach Clean ups that started in June 2019 and is an integral part of making Simon’s Town a litter free environment as part of a vision to make Simon’s Town South Africa’s most ‘LIVEABLE’ town. The programme held three successful CLEAN-UP days in 2019 and now, following the impact of the holiday season it was time get BACK TO CLEAN

The CLEAN SIMON’S TOWN project is supported by a number of key stakeholders:; Metrorail; Table Mountain National Park; Harbour Bay; City of Cape Town; The Glass Recycling Company; Greenpeace; Glencairn Hotel; Cape RADD; Pisces; Simonstown.com; Harcourts; The Simon’s Town Business Association; and, the Simon’s Town Civic Association.

Ultimately the CLEAN SIMON’s TOWN project has come together from a convergence of ideas: the need to respect and protect our unique marine environment; the power of active involvement by citizens and businesses; and, the resources and the active involvement of key stakeholders.
