Commuters and visitors travelling along False Bay’s scenic Southern Line please note that the updated Southern Line schedule now includes direct weekday trains between Cape Town and Simon’s Town. This replaces the previous arrangement that required passengers to change trains at Fish Hoek.
What’s Changed?
Previously, Southern Line services terminated at Fish Hoek, with a separate shuttle service operating between Fish Hoek and Simon’s Town. This meant passengers heading further south needed to disembark and transfer.
Under the updated schedule:
- Weekday trains now run directly from Cape Town to Simon’s Town, with no transfer required
- The change applies to Monday to Friday services
- Saturday services currently still operate using the Fish Hoek–Simon’s Town shuttle
- There are no regular Sunday or public holiday services, except for special event operations
What This Means for Passengers
This update makes travel along the Southern Line simpler and more convenient, especially for daily commuters and visitors to the south peninsula. Passengers can now remain on the same train for the full journey, reducing delays and improving overall travel experience on one of Cape Town’s most scenic rail routes.
How to Check Train Times
You can plan your journey and check departure times in two easy ways:
- Google Maps – simply enter your start and end stations and select public transport to view up-to-date train schedules
- Metrorail’s Southern Line timetable – available at (or see timetable below):

Passengers are encouraged to double-check times before travelling, as schedules may change.
