On behalf of the Simon’s Town Civic Association, we would like to invite you to our upcoming General Meeting celebrating October as National Marine Month.

This year we are focusing our General Meeting as an opportunity to inform and inspire our community about the importance of marine conservation, the unique beauty of False Bay, and the role we can all play in safeguarding our coastline.

We are excited to have three exceptional voices in marine protection, awareness and stewardship. The programme will include a Welcome and brief update from the STCA Chairperson David Attwell. The speakers include:

  • Greg Oelofse, Manager of the City of Cape Town’s Coastal Management Department. The Coastal Management Department has a number of programmes, projects and partnerships geared towards maintaining and promoting the ecological integrity of our coastline, and help make our beaches and coastal parks available for all of us to enjoy, responsibly.
  • Mike Barron, Marine Biologist and Director of Cape RADD. Cape RADD is one of the custodians (alongside the Two Oceans Aquarium) of the False Bay Hope Spot. Hope Spots are special places that are scientifically identified as critical to the health of the ocean. The False Bay Hope Spot is one of 165 around the world.
  • Jean Tresfon, Marine Conservation Photographer. Jean is working to protect our amazing and diverse coastal habitats from destruction through poaching, pollution and illegal fishing and using stunning and unique imagery to inspire more people to both visit and conserve these beautiful wild places.
